Bribags by Bri Woods: Saturday Spotlight

Bribags: what are they and who is Bri? is that what you are saying when you read the title? Well come on in and find out! I am super excited to kick off the return of the Saturday Spotlight with the very talented Bri Woods.

First let me tell you that I am embarrassed to say that I have seen these bags, but didn’t know she made them. #payattentionGG. You see I knew Bri as Geeky Curly because we are both natural beauties.  I mean I knew she knit but I didn’t know about the bags. Somehow I knew about her ETSY shop because I had it as a favorite, but…anyway keep reading to learn how the Bribags were born.

I absolutely love these things, so please tell me about the bags. I knew you knit but I didn’t know about the sewing.  I started making project bags when I found few project bag options that expressed my personality. I started with some fabric my mother shared with me to practice and figure out my sizing and preferences. Just like any hobby I love, I got carried away and ended up with a ton of bags. I shared some (not as pretty as I’d like bags) with my knitting group and I enjoyed how tickled they seemed to be. Flash forward to the Orange County Yarn Crawl. Four of us from the knit group went up to visit all of the yarn stores. At the last stop, the yarn store was next to a quilt shop. We visited it as well and everyone picked fabric for a bag. They dubbed their bags “Bri Bags.” And my Etsy shop was reborn.

What did you learn to do first knitting or sewing? I learned to crochet in 4th grade. I did that on and off for years as I fell in and out of love with projects, but I found that I never finished anything. I made crochet hats for my Etsy for awhile before I decided that I preferred the knit patterns I was seeing better. I picked up knitting in 2012. I picked up my first sewing machine in December.

December? Really!? that is awesome! Who taught you to sew? How long have you been sewing?  I grew up as one of 5 children and my mother sewed a lot of our clothing. We also have a few quilters that knit in our group. My grandmother is a quilter too. So, I’d been exposed to it for years, but I was afraid to take the leap or make the investment in a machine. I asked my mother to bring me her sewing machine down when she came to visit. She even paid for it to get serviced. But the service guy said it was missing a part and I needed another one. I purchased another machine before I found the part he was looking for at home. >_< Then I purchased a book and watched some YouTube videos to get started.

Wow!! you did a hell of a job. The quality of the bag is amazing, I always wished I could use a sewing machine. Good job! Who taught you to knit? YouTube all of the way! I just picked up a new stitch or skill with each project.
HA! another thing we have in common, I too have self taught. Which craft is your favorite? Knitting still has my heart, but my queue is so long and I sew faster than I knit.
Yes indeed if only I could be an octopus for a day! hahahahahahaha! What made you start making the bags? Peer pressure. I’m just kidding. I needed variety and I knit rectangles pretty well if I do say so myself.

Lol! that was good peer pressure! Do you have a favorite print and/or size bag? I love my Van Gogh bags right now. Because blue and yellow.
I take it those are your favorite colors…well we all know mine. LOL! What is your best seller? So far, the largest bags have been the best selling. They are so roomy. When I did my Campside Cardigan, I carried that, two balls of yarn, my needle case, and my notions case in one. It’s my favorite as well.
That’s awesome! I am in love with the little cake bags right now..so cute!! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me. You ROCK!!

Love the bags! I really need to up my project bag game😄. Thank you so much for sharing.

  2. “I want a large #Bribag to carry my WIP (because seriously — after standing and knitting while waiting in various lines to help my son fulfill his lifelong dreams of meeting Stan Lee…..I realize I need a prettier wip bag!)
