How to knit the Herringbone stitch|Technique Tuesday

It’s Tuesday, let’s talk about techniques. On the surface knitting seems very simple because you only have the Knit stitch and the Purl stitch right? Ha! Not hardly. There are so many ways to combine those two stitches to produce some amazing material.

I am currently working in the Secret Love Shawl from Wool and the Gang.ย I am using the spanking brand new yarn Tina in the color Vitamin C ๐Ÿ˜ย and My Goodness this is the perfect orange.

Tuesday Technique

As I mentioned before I love to learn new techniques and this pattern is that. The pattern includes the Herringbone stitch which was new for me. I was reading the pattern and had a “wait what?” or a “whatchutalkinboutwillis” moment. Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ did I just show my age?ย

I was stuck because I didn’t understand the words that were in the paper. You have to love YouTube because Wool and the gang had a tutorial so I looked it up too see what they wanted me to do.

The pattern is completed in 2 rows and I recorded for you.

R1: k1, s1 knit wise, PSSO, leave it on the needle and knit into the slipped stitch (go ahead and say what!?)ย

R2: P2tog, don’t drop off the needle P1 into the first stitch and the drop them ๐Ÿ‘€ oh just watch the video lol!

As you will see in the video, this stitch is lovely no matter the gauge

Happy Technique Tuesday

It’s always a pleasure to read your posts, Gaye! Right now I’m about to try cinching up and seaming a Mini ‘Almost Lost’ Washcloth — for the first time. As I look at herringbone stitch, I’m thinking my work might be a whole lot easier. So thanks for that! Making some little things to send away with two young women friends to college, and these are to be used for makeup removal. I’m sure you’ve seen these before. Wish me luck, and Knit On! -Margaret http://www.simplynotable.com/2014/mini-almost-lost-washcloths/

  2. Perfect timing, lady! I’ve been wanting to use the herringbone stitch on a pair of socks but I was kinda intimidated. One question: Is it stretchy enough for socks? It looks a little bit like it might not be very stretchy.
