If at first you don’t succeed…

As you all know I started the Secret Love Shawl by Wool and the Gang back in June. I was so excited to try the new yarn Tina Tape. I was ever more happy because it came in my favorite WATG color, Vitamin C 😋

I truly enjoyed knitting with Tina Tape. Not only is this yarn good for the environment, it also creates a wonderful piece of material! <<<< ast on almost immediately, yup just dived in. You know what I need to do better? Read the dang pattern a head of time. Did I? Nope. Do I regret that decision? Yup! The beautiful texture you see is created with the Herringbone stitch, see tutorial here. A stitch that I will respect from this project on, because what I did was super frustrating. It was almost impossible to TINK back. Trust me I tried. << an't even tell you how many times this project was put aside, dropped in a bag and ignored. I refused to take it out and start all over again, I had done that and if I had to again 🙄 I said all of that to say, I finally finished. I started in June and it's September! That is unheard of for me. Shelbey kept saying "you still making that?" Lol shut up little girl 🤣😂Yes finally, complete with a few mistakes, but finished none the less. I am so very happy with this FO 😋 If I were to do it again and that’s a big IF, I would make the wingspan wider. I absolutely love the texture that herringbone produces, but baby please pay attention.

Do you have a pattern that took you forever to complete? If yes why?

P.S. Wool and The Gang is having a decent sale this weekend, check it out and this kit is included in the sale😘

  1. WOW!!!! GG, that’s stunning (as is the model!). Good for you for walking away from it and then coming back. Sometimes it’s best to give ourselves space to regroup and take a few minutes to get perspective.
I’ve been wondering how the Tina tape would drape with this stitch and now I know–luxuriously! Now I MUST indulge!
My first Hue Shift Afghan took a long time, nearly a year, but it was because I let myself get too distracted with smaller projects (and then had to knit like crazy to finish it for Christmas!). Finished my 2nd one in about half the time (understanding now the need for steady progress!) And it’s done for this coming Christmas.

  2. Oh that is gorgeous – the color and the effect of that herringbone stitch! However, actually doing the herringbone? No no no! My sister pointed out some socks she loved and I said I’d make them for her. Started and then found out they were all over herringbone! She got a different pair of socks.
I made a linen stitch scarf for my son which he loves (and I love it too, now that it’s finished.) That thing took about half of forever.

Wow – I am beyond impressed, with the stitch work, the FO, and especially YOU! Gorgeous.
As to me, I’m stuck on finishing off a little starfish washcloth, of all things. You have inspired me to try again, maybe today. Kitchener for the first time, and has to be sturdy for a big-brother-to-be. Made from the same yarn as he and mama chose for the baby. Wish I could attach a picture. My deep gratitude to you, as always.

Seeing this now, feels like a l..o..n..g time ago (and it is). Have you ever seamed with Kitchener? We don’t say the “K” word in our house now. Right now I’m struggling with what to knit next, as I really need to do something for me! that’s not too challenging. Thanks for “listening” — and it’s good to know someone else finds herself in difficulty, even you! I did finish the little starfish, and the big brother chose to use it for a blanket for a favorite stuffed animal, instead of a washcloth.

  4. beautiful piece, beautiful color, and beautiful knitter. New to your blog but plan to come back again after Hurricaine Irma finished the last act of her play here in FL. Gives me something good to look forward to. Hugs to you, knitter friend.

  5. Hi GG! That looks great on you and so awesome you persevered. 🙂 I spotted you on IG when I was working (and still am working) on my PopLife Cardigan. I’m taking a break to try this shawl but am struggling with the different types on increases in the pattern. Did you find any good tutorials? The different kind of increases on the herringbone is tricky!

    1. Hi! Help me remember what we’re the increases? Was it knit front and back? I’m sorry I forget!

Also knitfreedom on Youtube is my favorite! I’m sure she has something

      1. Thanks for the tip! The ones that I’m having trouble with are the “make two stitches.” You do the first one like an increase where you pick up the bar and knit as usual. Then you insert back to front under the same stand and knit it one more time. I’m missing something cause at least one of the loops comes undone!
