How to use a Handmade Shawl as a Headwrap

Handmade shawls have become a thing for me. I never thought I would use fingering yarn for anything, never mind a shawl. Last year while I was in Florida, I saw a picture from DFinney Photography and the headwrap was fabulous. After doing some research I realize she sold the wraps she photographed and I had to have one. I realized I needed to learn to wrap them before I invested my hard earned money.

I had a few silk scarves I could practice with and that is how is started. One night after watching YouTube videos I was like “why can’t I use one of my handmade shawls?” and the rest as they say is history.

The first handmade wrapped Shawl

The first handmade shawl I wrapped was my Freesia by Jumpercable. It was big enough to work with and the end result was magical.

Wrapping my head with my hand knits became a thing. If my hair didn’t look good to me, I grabbed one of my many knits and worked it out. I have had many folks question how I wrap my head so I made a YouTube video showing you. I hope you enjoy and I hope it’s helpful.

  1. GG, You are as creative as you are talented and gorgeous! I’m looking forward to the pattern, as I know someone who would love a head wrap! (They would be awesome for chemo patients). As always, keep up the good work and thanks for your time and posts, I enjoy everything about you.

  2. This post is giving me life! I stumbled onto your blog via Ravelry, and am completely gobsmacked, because orange is the one colour I shake my head and back away from with a quickness. I love that it’s you’re signature colour! How do you wear your orange? As garments or in accessories?
