Sock School

2 things I learned in Sock School

Sock School is over and I am so very happy I participated. Those of you that have been around know this is not my first attempt at socks . Remember these adorable little booties? So yea, I have definitely made socks before. I joined because if given the choice, I would never side with the socks.

What is Sock School?

Sock school was a knit along, hosted by Little Skein Anne. She invited me to be the cheerleader and Denise of Earthtonesgirl as the teacher. The rules were very simple, you had to knit or finish socks, any pattern using any yarn.

What made this project so cool is the use of the Mason Dixon Knitting Field Guide No. 11. First I knew nothing about a field guide, but baby I am a fan now! Guide No. 11 was all about socks. If you are a new sock knitter, you need this guide, trust me.

2 things I learned in School

As I stated before this is NOT my first sock. The very first sock I made was done toe up with a heal flap, you can see it here. I have also made a few after, yet I would never call myself a sock knitter. LOL.

When in school the goal is to learn right? Ok so let’t discuse the 3 things I learned without a doubt.

  1. I MUST knit them two at a time. They will be the same size and length, lol. Also I so suck with second anything, I have the attention span of a 2 year old.
  2. I can’t stop saying I can’t do something I haven’t tried. You will never know until you try. I know I have to watch my mouth and stop telling me what I can’t do.

As always thanks for reading!

  1. I agree GG the second sock never gets done , especially after I seen how the first one striped turn out .. For me itโ€™s all about the excitement of the stripes . Two at a time is the best , yet I havenโ€™t master it.

  2. Such a gorgeous colorway and pattern!! Did you choose them or did Annie choose them?
How did you manage the yarn doing two-at-a-time? Did you get a bowl?
    Would you recommend sock school?

I love your video! Just adorable. ๐Ÿ™‚ Do you like the little sock-shaper things for blocking?

  3. GG dear,
You are so wonderful at putting yourself out there and trying something new, whether you succeed or fail. What courage you have! I appreciate you so much for everything you teach me. Keep going dear, you got this!!
    You are loved! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’—

  4. I absolutely love knitting socks!!! I am obsessed with the beautiful hand dyed fingering/sock yarns that are on the market now – I just can’t get enough of them!! I get a bit selfish when it comes to my fingering yarn, I don’t want to make items for anyone else – just me…and now I want my lovely hand dyed yarns to be seen by the world so I’m making more wraps, scarves, hats and yes, sweaters with it.

As for the 2nd sock never getting done – well, I also complete both socks…I have enough unfinished projects in the going nowhere bin.

  5. I used to avoid socks too because I always got bogged down in the patterns – and then I discovered that I REALLY enjoy plain vanilla stockinette socks (if they’re in a fun yarn) two at a time! It’s so nice to finally enjoy sock knitting!
