Making a Sweater has always been a fear of mine, for so many reasons. We won’t dwell on the fact that I have in fact completed a sweater or two or three, but I digress. For some silly reason, in my mind, I thought because I hadn’t completed a fingering weight sweater, I was lacking.
I know now that is nonsense. I have said a ton of times, your thoughts will drive your actions. Please mind your thoughts, because I promise they will stop you from being great.
So let’s talk about CocoKnits Sweater workshop. The book, which can be purchased directly from Cocoknits or your local Yarn shop, retails for only $35. The price includes 143 pages, 8 patterns, a book full of worksheets and tons of new to me skills.
We have all downloaded patterns from Ravelry for $6.50 or more, so you can’t beat the price. You also can’t beat the Cocoknits Method. This method teaches you a unique approach at top down, seamless knitting. I mean, I never liked how my picked up stitches looked until this book.
I just completed the Lizzie which is a sassy little cropped cardigan. When I decided I was going to make it, I instantly decided I was going to make it longer. WHY? Well because I am more than a handful and I am accustomed to hiding my curves.
I am no longer concerned, because this cardigan fits me like a glove. I promise this thing hugs me like we are dating and I love it! The two small children that I carry on my chest demand attention. I have avoided so many patterns because my blessing. Julie’s method teaches you how to make it fit.
Cropped tops or cardigans are not normally what I go for, but this project has shown me that I can make them work. As Julie said to me on Instagram, she knows here way around some curves and I agree!
I think one of the other reasons I love this book is all of the new skills I have acquired. My false grafting under the sleeves, baby listen, you can’t tell me nothing ok!
I will admit I was a bit intimidated by the worksheets. The first time I read what I was suppose to do, I didn’t read it carefully and was so confused. I went back over the instructions and figured it out.
With each row my confidence grew. I was so proud of my shoulders and the sleeves caps. They look so good, that if I wasn’t there I would question if I actually did this or not! hahahahahahahha. I don’t know about you all but I swell with pride when a project comes out right.
As the title implies this book is so much more than patterns. Julie even includes tips about items that look good based on your body shap. I am tell you, this book should be in every knitters library. I am already looking at another project, just need to figure out the yarn situation. Yup, I love this book
The Patterns are exclusive to the book, so if you like Lizzie or the Tallulah, you have to get the book. I am so very sure you will be happy with your purchase. Take it from someone who has tons of hang-ups about sweater knitting, but am ready to cast on another.
I have my eye on either the Emma (version c) or one of the extended patterns, the Franca. This beauty has pockets and I have never done pockets. I am curious how that is done without seams! Did I say Julie is a genious? If you are attending Rhinebeck, she will be there signing her books. She (Julie) will have samples of her beautiful patterns. You can try them on and experience the magic in those shoulders.
The yarn
I can’t end this post without taking a moment to give love to Emma’s yarn. This is the Hella Hank (it’s called that because each skein is 600 yards) in the color way 10 Questions. This is a MCN (merino, cashmere and nylon) and it works up like a dream. The drape on it is perfection and I only steam blocked. Imagine if I give it a good bath. Unfortunately, 10 questions is currently sold out, but she has other lovely colors. Check it out!
It came out beautifully! The short version looks good on you!
Way to go! I love 10 questions and am casting on with it this weekend! We just restocked it in the store too! It’s been a very popular color thanks to you and your beautiful knitting!
