Longest day of the year, hello Summer

Day 1 of Summer 2016, the longest day of the year and I am excited because….more time to KNIT! hahahahahahahaaa

As the temps begin to rise, does your knitting choices change? Do you have a particular yarn content you prefer? Do you stick to little things like socks? What do you knit in the summer? Last year this time I was finishing up my Shades of Gray poncho and then I moved on to making a few shawls, and they were made with bulky yarn.  You remember those shawls right? I had my pictures taken by the lovely Patty McGuire and I was super proud. So for me the season doesn’t matter, I just knit something EVERY day!

The only time I really consider what I am working on is when I am traveling. I find that lately I take the lighter wight yarns with me because they don’t take up as much room in my suitcase. But I can not honestly say..it’s summer so I only knit with Cotton or Linen (I have some of course). Now my Vivienne Cardigan was made during the summer and it is cotton, BUT that is how the kit came, I can’t say I did it on purpose. image

Fast forward to the here and now and I am knitting with the brand new Billie Jean Yarn from Wool and the Gang. It is denim and cotton blend and it perfect for summer knitting. It is generating a nice light, perfect for a chilly walk on the beach material. Maybe I will take some of the linen I have with me on my next assignment and make up something I can actually wear in the summer. FullSizeRender

How does summer impact your knitting? Do you knit less or just choice a weather friends yarn? Let’s discuss in the comments.

Knit on my fiber friends…knit on

  1. I’m making a summer scarf with a silk/seacell blend. It’s lightweight and the colours are beautiful. It is a lace pattern and I’ve ripped out more than I’ve knit!

  2. The Season doesn’t matter
If I have a design idea in the Winter, but the design is more geared toward Summer weather, you’ll find me Knitting/Crocheting with Bamboo or Lace Weight Silk. If I have a design idea in the Summer and the design is more geared toward Winter weather, you’ll see me Knitting/Crocheting with Merino Wool, Cashmere, Quiviut etc….
So basically, I Knit/Crochet all year long with all types of Fibers

  3. I forgot to add, if I see a pattern by a designer that I really like, I’ll make it no matter what the Season or whatever fiber.

I am knitting with Three Irish Girls Bamboo Cotton Fingering yarn and it is so light and soft and perfect for Florida summer knitting! I am test knitting a shawl in her English version of the pattern for a Polish Designer in it. It is way to hot to knit with anything heavier than fingering down here right now!
