2nd Avenue by Amy Miller | My Review

2nd Avenue by Amy Miller, featuring Plucky Knitter – my review. Let me give you a little background here. A few weekends ago on a very wet and cold Saturday I had the honor of attending a trunk show featuring Plucky Knitter. Read or watch here. I will never have the words to express my sheer joy at being able to walk out of a shop with Plucky Primo Fingering in hand.

This review will be mostly pictures because I don’t have a feel cam. If I had a way for you all to reach through and touch this yarn, my God. I need you all to trust me when I say, treat yourself to some Plucky, any base, just get some!

I know it’s not Friday, but dang it I finished! hahahahahaa

The Details

The Pattern: 2nd Avenue is the name.

The Designer: Amy Miller with her talented self

The Recommended Yarn: All the damn fingering Plucky! LOL Any fingering weight will work, however, if you can, get some Plucky. The Primo base is my new BAE.  The wrap calls for 5 colors and the final measurements should be 25 by 62 inches. It’s lofty and I love it!

Craftsy

The Recommended Needle: I never gauge, I just grab the needle and get going. Gauge police don’t arrest me ok? 2nd Avenue calls for a US6 (did ya’ll see my new signature needles?)

The Required Skillset: if you can knit, purl, yarn over, knit 2 together and cable cast on..you got this!

My Thoughts

If you read my Throwback Thursday post you know this: for a long time I was intimidated by projects like 2nd Avenue. I had convinced myself I couldn’t knit with small yarn and needles. HA!! I used over 1200 yards of yarn, GASP! I never ever imagined this would be me.  This pattern gets a rating of 5 out of 5 skeins. Why, you ask? Let me explain. Amy did an outstanding job of breaking up the monotony. Normally I would run from 1200+ yards of Stockinette. She does that a few ways. The first way is the 5 colors, then she just shows off. She has striping, a little lace and some texture. Amy Miller for the win.

You can’t beat a pattern that keeps it fun and teaches new techniques. As a result I recorded a Picot Bind off tutorial. I recommend this pattern AND damn it!! Please get you some Plucky!

  3. You look fab and shawl/scarf/pashmina looks great, I like your choice and order of colours, plus the combo of strong (?) and neutral colours. Thanks so much for the picot tutorial on Youtube, don’t think I would have got it done without your video.

Best wishes to you and your family, plus the GG-ites during these exciting times.
