Hi, I am a yarnho, but you can call me GG, hahahahahahahahahahahaaa! Today marks a month that I have been here in Rochester working. The work has truly kept me occupied but never enough to keep me away from yarn.
The first week I was here, after a particularly grueling day, I found a group of woman knitting in the hotel lounge. Of course I went, introduced myself and asked could I come knit with them. I learned the they did this every Tuesday, so I opted for another Tuesday, because good gravy I was beat up.
Fast forward to Tuesday past, because of course I kept forgetting and then we had a blizzard, but I finally went down and met the very talented ladies. We knit and discussed life, it was a beautiful experience. I was working on my second Conversationalist hat from Plucky Knitter when I asked them about local yarn stores in the area.
Based on the yarn I was using they recommended Yarn Culture which was located in a neighboring town called Fairport. The yarnho in me got excited and decided this weekend it was a date. Well my two friends who do the same type of work, decided to drive over from OH for a girls weekend. HA! First stop Yarn Culture LOL yup I dragged them to the yarn store with me, I sure did! YC (yarn Culture for short) is tucked back in a corner on Fairport road and if you are not careful you will miss it, so please be careful because miss it you should not! Thank you Marina for the recommendation. Their tagline is be inspired and I absolutely was. Now you guys know I have been to my fair share of yarn stores, therefore I have seen it all..big, small, and OMGAWD! Well, YC falls in the OMGAWD category without question. I think what stuck with me is the design and layout of the store. This is the first yarn store that I have seen take such a minimalist approach to display yarn. The store is very open and the layout seemed to make it easier for me to make a decision. I think one of the customers described it best. It’s like a shoe store from back in the day. Remember there would be one shoe to grab your attention but all of the options were in the back and they would bring them to you? Same thing here, the demo yarn is there to touch and molest and they go in back to get a fresh skein for you to purchase, Isn’t that cool?!
They had a great selection of high end stuff, a lot of cashmere blends and hand dyed yarns…the fancy stuff and I was in heaven. I mean they carry Madelinetosh, Hedgehog Fibers, Kismet, Woolfolk and I met a yarn called Tundra. Yea man, this store is definitely OMGAWD level. I mean I finally have some Kismet yarn in a gradient kit in the color way Smoked Paprika, translation..ORANGE baby! The samples were beautiful, man I even like how they display their patterns.
I could go on and on but I will stop here. If I were to visit your town, which yarn store would you recommend? Because I am a yarnho and I approve this store!! P.S. you can find them on Facebook and Instagram AND you can order online. You’re Welcome!
Knit on my fiber friends…knit on

I love the minimalist layout! I can see how it could help make choosing easier. Not that having to pick is really something a fiber addict wants to do. There is no such thing as too much yarn! ❤
Oh where to send you if ever cam to the Twin Cities? First stop would have to be Steven Be’s, home to the fabulous Glitter Knitter. From there you’d have to trek over to Darn Knit Anyway and then onto Knitting from the Heart which is where I spend most of my time because I’d have to final for bankruptcy if I spent too much time at Steven Be’s. There are plenty of fun shops within a 20-30 mile radius of me and each shop is unique.
Clearly, I need to come by you!
I can’t believe I forgot the lively Lila and Claudine’s in my previous list! Too bad you can’t be up here April 7-10th for our annual yarn hop. You’d be in heaven! Check out the link to see why you should come visit:

I am so sure I would!
Gaye, I live in SWFL and there is a delightful shop in Fort Myers, FL called GEEZ LOUISE! Such incredible yarns, sample knitting and the most brilliant, knowledgeable knitting staff I have encountered anywhere! You must visit when you are in the Sanibel-Captiva area!
is that far from Tampa? I will check it out if I can, thank you!
