I have ALWAYS wanted a knitted Turban hat. I mean like always. I will not tell you how I have run through the internet searching for a pattern and then I just gave up! I did see a guy that had one on at VKLive last year and it was more of a knitted wrap that he just made into a turban and yea no. Then insert The Third Piece and their pattern for the The Soho-Turban hat, woot woot! GG was happy again. Then I read the pattern and was sure I would mess up the twist part. I had some left overs and so I tried it! I got that twist down and was comfortable trying with a full skein.
Here is what I did, I grabbed the pattern and everything I needed. I added the push pins so I could pin the wrap in place once I got it perfect
This pattern is free on Ravelry and can be found here. I knitted up the first part and was ready to make the turban. The other part I love is he construction of this hat, I think they are a tad bit BRILLIANT! After talking with Kristen last Sunday at VKlive, she said folks are having issues with this pattern, well I think I have an answer. The pattern tells you to mark your center point.
Step 1 – fold in half to locate the center
Step 2 – use your head, yes YOUR head to make sure your wrap is right. That is my trick. I wrap and twisted it on my head and pinned it in place. Once you have the twist right then grab your pins and carefully pin the wrap in place.
Step 3 – carefully remove the turban from your head, being careful not to stick yourself, now you can use the pins as your guide to seam the turban close. The key is to stack the wrap on top of itself. Does that make sense? It worked perfectly for me.
Once you have the turban wrapped just perfectly and seamed the rest is simple. I absolutely love my hat and I hope this helps someone else to love it as well.
Knit on my fiber friends…knit on

Genius! You definitely stood in line twice for the “teacher” talent, as well as all your other talents. Knit on, dear GG!
Why thank you my dear friend!!!
LOVE this – thank you for your great tips. After ALWAYS wanting one, it looks like you got the perfect turban! Happy October…
Same to you!!
Oh THANK YOU for this post! I could not understand this pattern to save myself — and I’m not an inexperienced knitter. I was getting very stressed out about the whole thing and almost gave up on it entirely. I decided to do just one more web search to see if someone had posted anything about actually making this gorgeous turban. So glad I found your blog. I’m bookmarking this page. Once again, thanks for sharing! <3
Thanks for reading!
I just found this and it was really helpful!! Thank you so much because I was not getting the instructions. Do you cast off the twisted strip? So you stitch the CB seam together of the 45” knitted length. Do you sew the bands to each other also? Then where do you pick up the knit the crown? Yours look like it coming from inside?? And the instructions mention knitting for 5” then picking up 48 stitches? I’m very confused and I love this hat….
First I’m sorry for the delay, this was awhile ago so all I have is what’s in that blog post. I’m sorry.
Thanks for the tips. Great pictures and clear directions for the twist.
I cannot download the pattern at the moment, but I think with your pictures I can actually figure it out without the pattern. And thanks to the Raveler who referenced your blog as a good place to look for help, which is how I found this blog.
Oh did you reach out to the designer for the pattern? I am happy the pictures help.
The pattern is no longer available on ravelry. Would you mind sharing it with me? I need this turban in my life.
Hi Ashley! That pattern is not mine to give, I’m sorry. Send them a note, I’m sure they will help if they can
