60 Quick Cowls: a book review

Cowl comesย from the Latin word cuculla, meaning “a hood”. Did you know that? I didn’t but it makes sense now. I will NOT admit to the number of cowls I have in my little apartment and you can’t make me. What I will do is sing “I got a new book, I got a new book, wanna see? ok Look..” LOL!

The book I am singing about is called ” 60 Quick Cowls: Luxurious projects to knit in Cloud and Duo yarns from Cascade Yarns” Bless you Cascade Yarns for the fiber blessing. I remember seeing a few of the patterns on Ravelry and instantly losing my mind! I ran, virtually, to Amazon and ordered 2. Why 2? Because I love my fiber friends so a give-away is coming along with this blog post. Stay tuned.

As soon as you open the book your senses are attacked. Well they will be as soon as you get over the glossy high end cover and the model’s eyes which pierce your soul. It’s like she is silently approving of your acquisition. I love it! If you own a pattern book you know that they will tempt you with some of the most beautiful pictures you have ever seen and this one is no different. I mean 60 cowls, quick cowls, man listen..just knock me over with a ball of yarn, I am sold.

What I really enjoyed in the book outside of the 60 quick cowls that is, was the lesson on Alpacas. I mean who knew that once upon a time 1 alpaca could cost 25,000 dollars! Say what? One set a world record and was purchased for $600,000. Wait someone come help me up because I passed out. I mean who knew? Because I absolutely did not! Some other facts, 87% of the worlds population of Alpaca live in Peru…I wanna go to Peru and be with the Alpacas. I also learned they only live and average of 18-20 years..aww that’s young right?

The patterns range from beginner to advance which means it’s a perfect gift for anyone! This is why it’s on my Favorite Things list and I just got it! I mean you have simple ribbing to more cables cables or color work. Each cowl is designed with Cascade’s Duo or Cloud yarns, which are both a merino/alpaca blend. YUMMY! The patterns are written and charted so again it appeals to the masses.

  1. Thanks for the review! I feel like ordering a knitting book off Amazon is like diving into a virtual grab bag. You never know what patterns you are going to get. Am I even able to knit this? Do I have the skills required for these patterns? I do admit I have a few books stored away on the “when I get REALLY good at this” shelf. I have only been knitting for a year so it gets intimidating sometimes! Thank you!

  2. Oh my Goodness!! Thank you sooo much!! This is the first time I’ve won anything. I will get lots of use out of the book ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you again!!
