I just saw an email from Wool and the Gang that said Friday, October 9, 2015 is Wooly Hat Day! Check out WATG’s blog post for more details here. I hadn’t heard of this so I went digging and it appears that our fiber friends at Campaign for Wool are throwing a week long wool party! Say What! I am so here for this. I am a Yarnho, so you know I gets hype for all things wool related. I am a few days behind but I am in time for Hat day damn it! You can join in on the fun too by taking a picture of your favorite wool hat and posting on Instagram. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #woolyhatday I don’t care what the weather is, I am wearing a handmade hat; made by me of course 🙂
In honor of Wooly Hat day, let’s talk hats. On this post I will share 5 hats that in the end, I was proud to say I made it, because lord knows that is not the case with many hats I have attempted to make.
5 hats I enjoyed making
- Hinge – by Berroco yarns. I saw this displayed in a yarn store and this hat I had to have. The yarn is Berroco Lodge. The hat is knit flat and requires 2 skien. I absolutely love the outcome. The Fisherman’s rib gives it the texture that I adore and you see that orange? You know I couldn’t leave it there
- Soft as hell hat – hahahahaha you know I made that name up. This hat was born because I had Plucky Knitter Snug left over and well, who does that!! I had to use it up every drop, so I made up this hat. I really wish I took the time to write down what I did, because it came out so nice! I thought I was grown and tried my had at some color work. I am so very pleased with this hat. It is so flipping soft, hence the name. Snug is such great a great blend of wool
- Steep Climb Hat – this hat was free when I grabbed it, it now $7.00. I made this one earlier this year, because well it’s bulky yarn, it has texture AND it has a Pom Pom. I used Twinkle Handknit Chunky yarn that I had laying around. I believe this yarn has been discontinued 🙁 I loved the pattern so much that I made a cowl to match it! You can see that here I wore it to Vogue knitting live and I got so much love 🙂
- Go big or Go home hat – this free pattern comes from Loopy Mango site and I had some yellow yarn I had purchased from them and yea, I whipped this baby up in no time flat! Click the link to get the free pattern on my Ravelry page. I had seen these hats all over Pinterest so I had to make one. Super easy and quick. You know I love quick! My Jordan is the perfect model don’t you thinks?
- Anthropology inspired hat – the fastest hat in the EAST! I whipped this baby out in no time flat! I used the Brown Sheep Burly spun in my favorite color of course. This pattern is free 🙂 If I remember correctly I think this is knit flat too! Go check it out!
Do you have a favorite hat pattern? Let’s share and don’t forget to join in on the fun and post a picture using the hashtag #woolyhatday I know I will.

Man! I just LOVE the Steep Climb hat. However since I don’t knit for profit, I have a hard convincing myself to pay for patterns. Right now, I’m trying to convince myself to make an exception! I want/need that hat in my life! LOL!
I feel you! It was free when I made it. One of those Free until deals! Thanks for reading
I love your hats! I love making hats too, so it’s always fun to find new patterns. And you in that blue?? Gorgeous! Made me smile!
Thank you! I struggled for quite some time. I am still a little hesitant when I cast on.
Love the blue hat and cowl. I just ordered two of your “She crochets too” teeshirts.
You rock!!
Thank you!
Love you hats and your new site! 😍 You have inspired me to whip up a few hats for winter.
Yay! Do it!
I love the light blue “Steep Climb Hat” with the scarf to match. I like the chunky look. Is this pattern on Ravelry? What size needles did you use?
