WIP Wednesday

This use to be my favorite day of the week. WIP daaaaaaay! (Hear the camel’s voice when you read this) Are you wondering why it is no longer  my favorite day? BECAUSE how does one manage more than one project? At this rate  NO thing will get finished! I  am completely overwhelmed and when I get to this place I just avoid.

GG’s current WIPs

  1. A pillow – I am working on designing a pillow, should be easy right? WRONG! I will not share how many times I have started over. NOPE and you can’t make me. You like that yarn don’t you? BagSmith.com
  2. A big ass orange blanket – let’s talk about how I should not have even started this until I had a block of time to just barrel through. Now my bedroom is off limits because touch it and see what I do to you 👀 Hahahahahaaa that is my beloved Tjockt Orange roving and I am not responsible for my actions.
  3. A cowl – Profusion should be done and hidden from all the folks that want it, but no it’s just laying there looking at me like “Dude! You don’t see me, waiting to be completely fabulous?!” This pattern is on Ravelry if you want to start and FINISH one before me….ugh! How did I get here? Karen MaCall has some lovely patterns and the yarn! Yummy! I and using Frabjous Fibers and Nice & Knit fingering weight.
  4. A double knit baby blanket – ugh why did I start this? It’s taking too long 😏 I am confidently the CEO of #teamlazy and a huge fan of instant gratification. This pattern is also on Ravelry if you are interested. It’s called Hoover Blanket by Lou Henry Hoover

I won’t even talk about that picture 👆🏾👆🏾👆🏾up there 🙊

So is this some rite of passage crap? Does this mean I’m officially a knitter? I don’t want to be a part of this crew. I want the pleasure of completing one project after another. I want out of WIP hell!

What are you working on?

Knit on my fiber friends…knit on

You have hit the nail on the head. Lol. I have a shawl vest going and am supposed to be starting a shawl for a mkal that started Oct 1st and I have another shawl vest and a poncho to make.. Needless to say this past week I’ve woken up with the intent to start the shawl or work on the shawl vest and by end of day I’ve done none of the above lol.

  2. This is true in work and life as well my Gaye: having multiple things going on at one time leads to nothing getting done! Multitasking doesn’t work, it fact I think it leads to major stress, so I would say just pick one project to finish and focus on that. Maybe the most pressing project or the easiest project should be finished first and then move on to the next until all of them are done; don’t stress babe!

      1. I tried to do it with work and it just leads to a headache! You’ll figure it out but if I throw in an opinion I would say finish the orange blanket first since you can fly with those big a** needles and it’s COLD at night so you’ll need it 🙂

      2. SOMETIMES I THINK IT IS A GOOD THING TO HAVE SEVERAL THINGS WITH DIFFERENT SKILL LEVELS GOING. THE MINDLESS ONES FOR THE DAY THAT YOU ARE THE MOST STRESSED OR NOT FEELING WELL, THEN THE ONES THAT REQUIRE AN OCCASIONAL PATTERN GLANCE , AND 1 THAT IS “READ THAT PATTERN LINE BY LINE” YOU KNOW, THE ONE THAT TESTS AND MOVES YOUR SKILLS TO A NEW LEVEL. JUST KEEP KNITTING. THEY DO GET DONE

  3. Some people like having several projects on needles at a time. For me, that’s the route directly to getting none of them done. I’m paralyzed with indecision. I can see the use of having a pair of socks on needles plus a larger project you wouldn’t want to lug along on the bus. But I’m a linear-thinking kind of person, at least for projects. So you do whatever you prefer, is my suggestion!

  4. I am working on a beanie at the moment with a infinity scarf in my bag (mind you I am at work at the moment)
I have a Ravens Baby Sweater that needs buttons, a Ravens poncho that I just cast on, a three color cowl with only one color. I just received the yarn for the 5 Hogwarts scarf and hat sets I need for my grandchildren and the yarn for a poncho, scarf and hat is on the way in. So those are the WIPs I am attempting to complete- I’ll say nothing about the ones in my bin at home that I am trying not to think of.

      1. lets just say I am a little stress when I think about it ,,,,, but the joy I get knitting surpasses the stress. And I never promise a completion date except for my paying customers.

  5. oh and I for got I want to make a pink ribbon scarf for my co-worker by next week – she is a breast cancer survivor!

  6. I just finished a MKAL on Friday, September 25, 2015. I have not weaved in the ends yet nor have I blocked it. I have a puppy who likes knitted garments. Anyway, I started Fractal Danger, a shawl as a gift on Monday, October 5, 2015 and I also have another shawl, Assante on needles. I knit according to my mood. They are equally important, but I have a deadline for Fractal Danger, so it gets first billing. I learned a long time ago that have too many WIPS is too much for mind and time!

  7. THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE I AM NOT ASHAMED TO SAY-
    1. A MECHA 1 SKEIN COWL I HAVE RIPPED AND STARTED AGAIN 4 TIMES. THIBNK I HAVE IT NOW. SETTLED IN LINEN STITCH ON SIZE 11
    2. RIBBED STITCH COWL MADE FROM 60 KOIGU SKEINETTES. COLOR CHANGES KEEP ME INTERESTED.
    3. SUPER BULKY VEST/SHRUG.
    4. LINEN STITCH SCARF FROM KOIGU LEFTOVERS
    5. SILK GARDEN SOLO OVERSIZED T FROM NORO MAGAZINE
I THINK THAT’S IT, BUT I AM AT WORK AND THERE IS PROBABLY MORE, BUT I DO NOT STRESS .HAVING DIFFERENT THINGS GOING ACTUALLY KEEPS ME KNITTING. IF SOMETHING FEELS TEDIOUS I JUST FINISH THE ROW, AND MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER ALL AS GOOD AS FINISHING FEELS, IT’S THE PROCESS THAT KEEPS ME GOING AND CALMS ME AFTER A DAY SPENT TEACHING ESE PRESCHOOL. I MUST HAVE MY STICKS AND STRING!!!!!!!!!

  8. I’m a sweater obsessed knitter but I break up a big adult sweater and knit quick and satisfying baby sweaters in between. I am so not a monogamous knitter!

  9. I think it’s adorable that you only have 5 things (counting the thing you don’t even want to talk about) on the needles. Oh to have only 5 WIPs. I miss those days.
