If you follow me on social media you have seen this picture of me displaying pure joy when I picked up my Funky Chunky yarn. I was in Texas for most of December and during a break I saw that I was tagged in a picture on Facebook. My immediate thought was someone purchased a shirt or a bag or something. What I did not expect was a picture of yarn from Do Ewe Knit and it wasn’t just any ole yarn is was THE yarn from The Third Piece. It was a picture of Funky Chunky, a yarn I had decided I was going to treat myself and place an order. You see as far as I knew you could only get it online. But insert Karen the owner of Do Ewe Knit and YES I could go to the shop, buy it and start knitting immediately! I was so happy and then it hit me…I was in Texas and would be for another week. I was distraught and wanted to cry.

If you could have seen the comments I left on the picture. LOL you would be convinced, if you are not already, that I need help. I was begging her to sell it to me over the phone and I would pick it up when I got home. Yes it was that serious, because if she had sold out, yea I would have been UP set! She only had 5 colors and I said give me 2 of each.

Fast forward to Saturday December 19th; one would expect me to sleep late when I was traveling ALL day to get home right? WRONG! I had yarn to pick up, but this happened. I went outside, skipping all the way to my car, humming in my head “It’s Chunky and it’s Funky and it’s mine” I get in the car and it wouldn’t start. Picture me fighting the air and yelling NOOOOOOOOO I have to get my yarn. I was going to cry, I promise you I was. Never mind ALL of the other yarn I own, we are not talking about THAT yarn..this was about my NEW yarn. Yarn I had been dreaming about. I wondered how much an UBER would cost to go to the yarn store, I was desperate. As always my daughter saved the day, she came and got me and took me…and she took that picture.

As you know I almost never buy yarn with a pattern in mind, the pattern finds us and the is what happened with the  Color Dipped Scarf from Purl Soho. I saw the pattern and knew it was the one. The pattern calls for a US17 needle, a needle that partnered with this yarn baby, talk about Sexy!! Funky Chunky is the perfect name for this yarn, it has a shine that makes it stand above the rest and the Chunk level is just right.

The yarn retails at $30 a skein…and it’s worth every penny if you ask me. I would definitely purchase again. You get 82 yards per skein, which makes it ideal for the one skein projects and a nice color selection. I partnered the Steel and the Barbie for my scarf, wanna see?

AND I used a US50 with this beautiful yarn to create my last project of the year. I used what I learned from Wool and the Gang and made a color blocked sweater/jacket thingy.

If I have learned anything it is simply this…Do what you love.PERIOD! Life hasn’t always been the best, but I merely knit my way right through it.

Knit on my fiber friends…knit on

  1. Well said GG! I love to knit too! Learning to love the chunky yarns again. Ordered the Tjockt yarn based on your review of the arm many moons ago. Happy knitting!

  2. Happy New Year! Your posts are so “knitfully” inspirational and your work is so beautiful. My resolution for 2016 is to step up my knitting game. Knit on!!!

  3. I wish I loved big needles – 13 is about the biggest I go do to comfort while knitting. Keep posting and blogging. Great projects and ideas. I am going to knit a Wool and the Gang sweater that is only on an 11. Happy New Year –
