My Asante Cowl in Sueno Mini Pack

I love a nice deep Cowl, one that I can wear as a hood as well. This latest completed project fits the bill. It just took me forever to finish because with my sprained elbow I could only knit in spurts. If I didn’t believe how knitting impacts me before, I know now for sure. The picture above shows my pain. Not the elbow pain but the pain in my heart. I need to knit I promise making this cowl kept me from climbing a bill and jumping.

The yarn

The cowl is made with a Sueno mini pack by HiKoo yarns. I grabbed this while in Florida from my favorite spot Four Purls. The color is called nicely neutral and includes 620 yards of yummy yarn. This yarn is new to me and yup I like it! The squish factor is on point and I absolutely love the colors. My Facebook family instantly noticed the absence of orange LOL! The rusty color counts right?

The Pattern

Is a free one that I posted on my Facebook page. You can get your copy here and make your very own. It’s just a simple pattern that results in a fantastic finished project. One of the main reasons I love Ravelry is to see what other folks do with a pattern, and this one didn’t disappoint. I was shocked that is only had 41 project though, it’s a great pattern by Lynn Di Cristina.  Check her other dother designs out, she is one of my favorites.

My Asante

The pattern calls for worsted weight but the pack I had was fingering. So for my cast on I did 132 stitches and used Smaller needles (US6 and US7). For the setup row I did the following: k37, P1k1 (3x’s) P1 <— repeat to end. Then follow the pattern which is repeating that setup row. The pattern calls for 10 colors and I used 9. The Asante starts and stops with some 1×1 ribbing and is done in the round. Even with my injury it was a lovely knit.

I made this for me, but a good friend thought it was for the shop..so I am selling it to him. I will have to make another for me. What have you finished lately?

Knit on my fiber friends, knit on….

  1. Gorgeous, as always, GG! I love those colors! Glad it helped you through the hurt elbow. I dislocated mine once and it’s surprising just how much you use your elbow! You don’t realize it until you can’t use it. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

  2. Elbow sprain?! Yikes. I can’t imagine….especially for a prolific knitter like you! Maybe you should try Portuguese style. I haven’t tried it yet (but I have the craftsy class). It is supposed to be less strain on the wrists…maybe it applies to elbows too.

    Good luck.

  3. Hey Lady,
I know what it’s like to knit with a broken Armand a torn rotator cuff, so I know what your pain very well. But I do feel that knitting helps subside a lot of other pains and issues we may have. I broke my arm in 2 places and tore my rotator cuff the end of last April and still have to knit in stints! Lol. I’m itching to get into some summer Knitting/ crocheting. What’s on your agenda?
