My progress on The Bright Side Sweater

Progress is defined as forward or onward movement toward a destination. I am currently working on a free pattern; the Bright Side Sweater by Espace Tricot. I am using the recommended yarn Finull by Rauma. This yarn is a first for me. I think the term folks use is toothy. It’s not extremely scratchy but it’s not what I am use to using. I don’t know that I would have tried it on my own. Melissa and Lisa always steer me in the right direction.

As for progress, I am approximately seven inches into a designed ten inches for the body. I tried it on because the girls take up a few inches themselves 😛; therefore, I will most likely go a little longer than the suggested body length.

I think this sweater is the perfect beginner sweater. It’s your basic top down raglan sweater, which is my favorite construction. You all know I love patterns from Lisa and Melissa. I have done quite a few of their patterns at this point. I always learn something new when working their patterns. The Turtle Dove project is when I learned what ease meant. Thank goodness I did, LOL.

The Bright Side has some ease in it, so now that I am aware, I pay attention so my end products fits as I desire. I need room for the girls, but too much room isn’t flattering for me. I plan to get to the sleeves by the weekend, because I have some other things (a hat from Chelsea Yarns and a wrap from Clinton Hill Cashmere. Below is a pic of me trying it on. I like the fit!!

What are you working on this Wip Wednesday?

Have a Fabulous Day….On Purpose

  1. I just started a Love Note sweater by Tin Can Knits, and I love it.
I had some yarn that a local yarn fest sent me when they cancelled their festival ( a cornflower blue), and I got laceweight mohair (purple) from my local yarn shop. It’s a beautiful, marled color together, and it’s knitting up much quicker than I thought it would. I kept putting it off because of the provisional cast on, but I’m so happy I sucked it up and started! And, now I know how to do a provisional!

  2. hello GG!
I am taking traditional Norwegian knitting classes from the fabulous Patricia at Knitography and all of my projects for her classes have used Rauma Finullgarn. So I’m excited to have another project to use Finull for. I love the orange you chose! 🙂 I think about you every time I get stuck on a new technique. “It’s just new, it’s not hard.” You are officially the calming voice in my head. Thank you. <3
    big hugs, Laura

  3. I’m knitting a Lounging Tee by Joji Locatelli. It’s at a small gauge, so it’s slow going but I’m using dream in color in a lovely green which is good for my brain at the moment. I love your sweater!

  4. Oh, what a gorgeous beginning, Gaye! I have been “itching” to make a sweater for my own self; maybe this is the pattern for me. Last time I knit myself a sweater was in high school, which was a LONG time ago. A gray (“goes with anything”) cardigan, which I wore to pieces. The sleeves were just a little bit too long – perfect for folding my hands up into when taking tests in those cold, cold testing rooms. Do please let us see your progress on this one! And as always, thank you for being an inspiration in so many ways. Margaret aka Peggy

  5. Hi, GG your Bright Side Sweater looks great. I will definitely check out the pattern by Espace. Tricot. Love Finull by Rauma yarn. I will be starting a Selbu Cowl with this yarn. I’m currently working on a Shusui Shrug designed by Susanne Sommer. This is my second Shrug love working Brioche.

  6. I’m working a plethora of socks, a cardigan for my husband, a shawl and an envelope cardigan for myself. I tried to do one project at a time, but I can’t help myself. I love to have an array to things to work on. BTW that sweater looks lovely on you and it’s always good to see your lovely smiling face!

      1. I work on one thing for a while until I either get bored or come to a place where I have to do some thinking about the project. Then that one will go into temporary time out and I will work on something else. It’s difficult for me to do the second sock, so I have to break it down to parts, like the cuff, leg, heel etc. I do small sections then work on something I really like. Most of the time, I just have too many projects that I want to make and not enough hands to make them. I’m forcing myself to complete so many projects before I start something else. It really makes sense to do one project at a time, but somehow I always end up with several. I guess, that’s how I roll. LOL

  7. Love the fit. I heard you say Turtle Dove had a lot of ease, so I went down a size. Looked like a poncho with sleeves. My granddaughter loves it. I made a second in the smallest size. It fits great. I haven’t worn a Size small in over 20 years. 😂🧶I will probably make the Brightside Sweater in size 2. Can’t wait.
