National Hat day is today, Friday January 15, 2016. Hats have always been a struggle for me. I am always apprehensive when I cast on a new one. I mean I have gotten better but my goodness that hasn’t always been the case. So let’s look at the hats over the years. LOL! Let’s start with the very first that I knit which is Autumn by Jane Richmond.
I was so very proud of that chunk and ribbing, although looking back I am so sure I should have gone deeper for more slouch. That was my issue, I never went deep enough, lol!
What is that on my babe’s head? A mess that’s what but she wore it because her mommy made it! Lol! But I refused to give up and eventually I got better. The pattern on this was called F346 Coffee Beenz Hat yea that was a mess!! LOL! I remember when I made this one…it was on a label of the yarn and listen, you couldn’t tell me NO thing! Ok!? It was on the Loops and Threads label and it was called Cozy Cabled Hat. Can you see my progress? I was doing better right? LOL! So many hat attempts I swear they were either HUGE or just not big enough. I should have done a swatch probably..but you know that lazy thing. LOL yea, I got it bad.
Then I just started showing off. I sold this one as fast as I cast off , because I was getting better! This one is Molly and I just looked at the original picture and I think mine was a bit large, as usual…but look at my cable though..you see what I did there? I mean in between I have made them too big, I mean one time it was so big it could have been a wool diaper! hahahahahahahaa but I kept trying.
My most liked hat on Ravelry is one I just made up. Look I had left over Plucky Snug Yarn and you do NOT waste that yarn so I made me a hat. I swear I should have written it down, but…..
As you can see I have gotten better, but I still hesitate just a bit. I love a chunky hat, like nothing I can explain. Over the years I have made them with pom-poms, with fancy ties on the side, heck even super bulky lacy. GG has improved! LOL what is your story, do you have a favorite or a go to when it’s time to knit up something to keep your head warm? Let’s discuss
Knit on my fiber friends…knit on
~GG
My new favorite is Fidra, bulky weight with a touch of lace and it knits up quickly. But I also love anything with an ear flap. I’ve made a ton of Amelia E hats and Helm.
These names are new I must check it out!
