No Yarn Left Behind..Ever

Yarn, it must be used, ALL of it and that is why this project exists. I just finished a project because I had a bag full of left over Plucky and Nice & Knit .Β Who does that? Clearly I do, but no more. Operation no yarn left behind started last week. I started by taking all theΒ  left overs out of the bag and posted it on Instagram looking for suggestions. The decision was already in my head that I wanted a sweater of some sort so off to Ravelry I went.

I wasn’t looking for a pattern as much as I was looking for inspiration. I had no idea what the yardage was or anything. This was going to be a knit and see what happens type of project. The end result has filled my heart with joy, but I digress, let me finish telling the story. I am calling this Fiberstein, because like Frankenstein it was going to be created with parts of techniques learned on different projects.

Fiberstein The beginning

Fiberstein is a color blocked cardigan which starts with orange of course. NOTE: I didn’t write anything down, but I plan to do it again, so don’t fuss. The top has a raglan cropped sleeve and I added a bit of texture under the arm. There is a little bit of business in the back, lol and I finished off with some bobbles, yea I did.

Six days later, after knitting and ripping and digging through my favorite stitch dictionary; we have a completed project! Everyone knows I love the color orange, but what you may not know is I also love texture. I love how the eyelets give it just a bit of something in the back. The bobbles on the bottom, yes they worked perfectly. They are pretty and functional, you see I didn’t want the bottom to curl and I didn’t want ribbing.

Let me stop talking and show you my finished baby. I need to say there was no rhyme or reason to the size of the stripes. I simply used what I had. This is Primo fingering from Plucky and the fingering from Nice & Knit. The majority of the fiber comes from my Spring Fever and the cream was left over from my Second Avenue, both are patterns by Amy Miller.

Fiberstein final thoughts

I can not begin to express the joy I felt when I finished steam blocking. I use the Con Air Steamer and it is everything.Β  The steam just gave the cardigan life. I mean I had to step back and say “yes GG you made that!”

So many of you have asked for a pattern, I didn’t write anything down, but I will make another and have it tested before I set it free. Ya’ll I can’t count. hahahahahahahaa and designing takes math. Stop laughing I am so serious. Anyway more to come.

I will end with this, stop telling yourself you can’t because trust me, you can.

Knit on my fiber friends….knit on

  1. WOW! That is GORGEOUS, GG! Can’t wait to see the pattern. I don’t have enough leftovers yet, but someday I will…and it’s fingering weight! I mostly have sock/fingering weight yarn, so this is going to be DELICIOUS!
