Rhinebeck 2015

I didn’t knit anything to wear to Rhinebeck, I bought the yarn from Do Ewe Knit? But I DIDN’T MAKE ANYTHING!
shock

I know the drama of it all. So what happens now? Will the knitting police come after me? I mean I can still go right? LOL! I am actually a little bummed out because I have the perfect project but ugh time.

What is Rhinebeck? It is the annual 4-day New York Sheep and Wool festival that take place at the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck NY. The fairground houses yarn vendors, classes, food trucks, animal shows, competitions, yarn and well just everything any fiber lover would want at a festival. One of these years I will plan ahead and just stay for the entire weekend, because there is no way I will see it all…NONE!

Last year I went to Rhinebeck for the first time and my mind was completely blown. So much so that I didn’t go nuts like I usually do..it was just too much. You can read that post here and this year I won’t be going nuts either because well, I am not working again, but damn it I am going!

There is so much more to do other than purchase yarn..said not one Rhinbeck attendee ever!! HAHAHAHAHAHA honestly. you have the Ravelry meet up at 12 noon on the lawn. I came at the end last time but I will be on time this year. Don’t forget all of the beautiful animals, the sheep were gorgeous! The Food trucks, the live bands and ALL constant walking fashion show. Those folks had on some beautiful handmade stuff!

I know he looks like he wants to say go away lady! But he was really happy to see me. I am so looking forward to meeting some fiber friends in person. There is nothing like being alone, wandering aimlessly through all the yarn and hearing “GG, is that you?” (insert smiling emoji) I know what, I bet you I find Briar Rose this time, hmph! Last time I was at the train station and this woman had a bag. When I realized they were there, yup a lonely tear slide down my face…it sure did! I LOVE that company and I missed out on them. Oh and I plan to get my hands on some Miss Babs this time, because DAMN that line was all the way OUT the barn and 4 rows deep. I mean I just want to be able to say I have some in my stash. Good grief!

Are any of you going? If so I will be wandering around on Saturday, I think I will wear my Orange Vivienne Cardigan from WATG and my GGmadeit  t-shirt (did you get one yet?) so if you spot me say “hey GG!” and be prepared because selfies will happen.

Have any of you ever gone to Rhinebeck or do you have something similar in your area? I think it’s the best thing ever.

  1. Have a wonderful time, Rhinebeck is on my knitting trips wish list (along with Knit City in Vancouver), and I will make it there one day!….
(Ps VKL NYC 2016 registration has opened, so flights from London and hotel have been booked, classes picked and Purl Soho shopping list first draft has begun!)

  2. I hope you have fun and I look forward to your posts. My local knit group, Trenton Knit n’ Stitch, briefly talked about attending this year, but that’s all we did…talk. Lol! A few of us did attend a local show in Hunterdon County about a month ago. I was able to purchase a nominal amount of yarn (not because there weren’t many vendors….I was just a bit overwhelmed because I didn’t know what to expect). I’m hoping to attend again next year and possibly Rhinebeck.

    Have fun!!!

  3. I am so jealous Gaye!!! Can’t make it this year but will try for it next year. We have an extended weekend knit and crochet festival the first weekend in March in Pittsburgh. Not on the scale of Rhinebeck but still fun. Check out the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet festival online.
