Walk this way|my experience on the NJ Woolwalk 2015

So this weekend was packed full of fiber and not the kind that sends you to the bathroom! LOL!! The NJ Woolwalk started on Thursday and included 14 different yarn stores. How blessed am I to live in a state with so many yarn stores. The only downfall is not having enough time to hit them all. Well that’s good and bad..good because I didn’t really have the funds to hit them all, because when I go I must support by purchasing something and bad, because I didn’t get to them all! LOL!

I decided to make a plan and go to the shops that were new to me. The stores were located all up and down the state of NJ and not necessarily near each other. I stared my day at Do Ewe Knit? in Westfield NJ, one of my favorite shops because Karen, the owner, posted this poncho that I HAD to have. It was exclusive to her shop so I showed up early so I was guaranteed to get a kit. A visit to D.E.K is always rewarding. Karen knows what I like from the color to the weight..she always has something that I can’t leave without. The store is well stocked with a nice selection of handdyed yarns that you don’t find everyplace. If you are in NJ and happen to love yarn…you are in the right spot.

I got my kit and I fell in love with this bag, but you had to purchase the kit to get the yarn. Guys, I was REALLY good..I didn’t spend a bunch of money..so I had to leave the bag there :/. I left Karen and headed to Jersey City and met another Karen. I found my way to the cutest little yarn  store called 2 Stix & a String. A cozy spot with major personality. I absolutely loved the window display with the knitted people. I found out that they were designed with actual people on the block. SUPER CUTE!! The owner was extremely friendly and there is nothing like feeling welcome when you walk into a yarn store.

Did I say she had the best selection of Malabrigo Rasta I had ever seen. I was drooling for sure. I left and headed to Teaneck. The shop is called The Yarn Dezvous and did I say I am so blessed to have so many stores near me? Oh I did? ok so this was another new shop for me, the owner said the store has been opened a little over a year. Another well stocked store, nice yarn selection, needles and notions, yup I could hang out here for sure.

The main reason was to turn in my passport AND I hadn’t been to KnitKnack since the new owner took over. What, that’s a good reason to stop and AND it was the WoolWalk and everything was 20% off. I got this cup while there

My final stop was to Knit-a-bit, my other FAVORITE yarn shop in Westfield NJ. The home of the other Gay. LOL! Another shop that I love going to visit. The owner ALWAYS makes me feel at home, no matter how long I stay away. The shop is home to 4 rooms, you read it right, 4 rooms full of yarn. Ha how could you not visit.

  1. that mug, tho. doing anything is at least 50% being not distracted by ravelry! lol

it looks like you had an amazing time!

  2. You look good Lady! Centered and peaceful! I’m thinking on doing a local(same state) yarn crawl but have to wait until next March!! Went yesterday and got everything I need to start dying acrylic yarn; first little bit is drying and ought to be dried tomorrow so that was my creative knitting over weekend. Soooo much fun to be had!

  3. First off let me say CT represent with the yarn company and I absolutely LOVE that poncho on display at DEK! Okay now, looks like you had a GREAT time and somebody doesn’t snatch you up and make you the knitting or yarn ambassador for NJ or the knot industry in general, they are missing out! Your enthusiasm and joy for the craft, the people and the stores you visit is infectious and wonderful and makes me want to come visit NJ just to see these stores live and in person 🙂

    1. Aww Nae from your mouth to God’s ears. I would absolutely love to do that! Travel state to state and review the local yarn stores! My dream job 😋
