My Answers

  1. Yes, I have quite a few and have found some new ones 🙂
  2. You know not normally, the only class I ever attended was the Steven & Stephen tour
  3. Would I? absolutely! My dream job is to travel the world with these fiber events and blog about my adventures
  4. I go to yarn stores to get my life, I browse and shop. My goal is to go in a store and leave empty handed
  5. If they went out of business! hahahahahaaa honestly the only reason would be bad customer service. I have no room for that
  6. Walking into Four Purls and seeing the table full of orange yarn and a sign saying “welcome GGmadeit” that still makes me get all mushy inside
  7. You know odd as it seems, I do not. I need to start though.
  8. Does a fish swim? hhahahahahahaaa Nothing but death will keep me from a yarn store! Wait..was that too much? hahahaha I meant it though
  9. I love the people and their crafting experiences. I have learned so much from visiting yarn stores.
  10. Not a deal breaker, but I would definitely recommend that add those things.

  1. 1: I do! It’s called Knit Your Dreams and it is in Quincy Illinois.
2: She offers a few every month but I have not yet been able to attend one 🙁
3: Of course I would work in a yarn store.. but I would probably end up paying them to work there due to yarn consumption!
4: Normally I have a plan to begin with but I always end up going off script and browsing.
5: If they didn’t have a good selection or if the employees were overbearing or rude.
6: There is a great store in Downers Grove Illinois called the Knitche! It has great areas to sit and knit and they also serve coffee! Another one I love to visit is Darn Knit Anyway in Stillwater Minnesota!
7: I used to.. but I have not been able to find one since I moved.
8: My current LYS does not have parking but you can park in her driveway or on the street so it is not a deterrent.
9: Good selection of yarn and knowledgable staff. Comfy couches and places to sit and knit are a bonus
10: Not a deal breaker but I would tell them they could make more money if they had them on offer!

  2. 1. Unfortunately, there isn’t much selection near me. If I need a specific yarn, I have to go on line. There are only three yarn stores “near” me. They are each individually 2 hours away by bus.
    2. I haven’t had much luck with classes. They yarn stores nearby use the class as a sales gimmick. More sales than teaching. (sad face)
    3. If I were independently wealthy, I would pay *them* to allow me to work there.
    4. I have so much yarn that I usually go to buy stitch markers. (Stitch markers disappear into the same alternate universe as socks.) Buying stitch markers is my excuse to browse.
    5. I never went back to a store that proselytized their brand of conservative religiosity. I didn’t feel welcome, I am such a sinner. lol
    6. I’m so old I can’t remember half the things I’ve done, but I have had many wonderful experiences in yarn shops.
    7. There is a knit night at a public library on Monday nights within walking distance and I love going when the weather permits. I haven’t been going long enough to make friends there, but there is always the possibility.
    8. No parking=No problem. I don’t have a car.
    10. If they had no other items, I would have no excuse to go. They’d miss out on the few dollars a year I spend there.

  3. 1. YES, it’s a 3 minute drive. 2. I TEACH all the yarny classes at my LYS. 3. It’s my dream job, and my real life job. 4. My plan is always to leave some money at the yarn store, when it’s another shop. lol. 5. If the staff are snooty and unwelcoming, that’s a dealbreaker for me. 6. When I walked into Pam’s Woolly shop the first time, an acquaintance I met at my retreat was working. I hadn’t seen her in a couple years maybe. I stepped in and sniffed and gasped, and she simply said, “It’s okay Jan. You’re home now.” 7. I host knit night every Tuesday, as well as attend social knitting on Monday afternoons and Coffee Knitting Thursday mornings. It’s kinda my thing. 8. I will walk a few blocks for yarn, no big. 9. Each LYS is different, but the best is when the staff just get it. They may work there but they’re excited too. 10. No way. My LYS has very little stock because it’s primarily a quilt shop. I still love it.

  4. Yes! Imagiknits, prop. Karla, here in Omaha – I’ve never caught her last name.
    Nope, not yet, anyway.
Since I’m retired, I have no desire to work *anywhere* any more lol.
I usually just go to browse, which is why I always end up spending more than I mean to.
Rude, haughty staff. (There’s a place like that here which made me nervous of ever going into a LYS again!)
Working up the courage to visit Imagiknits and being greeted so warmly with a big smile.
    No.
There’s no bus service anywhere near my LYS so, sadly, yes, it probably would.
    The friendly personal attention!
No – I have tons of tools & devices already!
