4 Things I wish I knew when I first attended VKL

Can you believe it’s VKL (Vogue Knitting Live) time?? I have seen quite a few video or blog post with VKL guides. The guides are mostly telling you about the vendors and special patterns or yarns. What I want to talk about is things I wish I knew that first time 5 years ago. Read about my first time here.

My first VKL experience was amazing and I vowed then I would never ever miss one again. I also promised myself that I would be prepared. So let’s talk about what prepared looks like to me.

4 things I wish I knew

  1. Bring snacks and water. Did I say snacks? LOL listen, there is a restaurant upstairs in the Marriot, just don’t forget you are in the middle of times square so $$$$$$. AND lines, because yea all the people come to VKL.
  2. If you are commuting, check your coat. You will thank me later. Nobody wants to walk around with ALL the bags full of yarn and a big ole winter coat/hat/scarf/gloves. I mean you have figure out where to put them when you take pictures and everything. Just check your coat OR wear one you can put in a backpack or something.

3. I know we all want to wear all the handmade things and please do, because I want to see them…..however, them shoes better be comfy. That’s right the third thing is footwear. People it’s a ton of standing and walking and not much sitting. I know those boots are cute but how do they feel? Don’t say I didn’t warn you

4. The thing I wish someone had told me is this…go to your favorites first!!! YES use that map and find your must have right away. This way you can grab what you want before its sold out.

Bonus tip…enjoy yourself. Go back a second time if you are not sure about a purchase.

  1. Thank you dear! I am definitely attending-for the first time-next year. My sweet daughter is coming along, we’ll also be visiting the new Harry Potter store while in NYC! I can’t wait to meet you and Adella. I truly appreciate your words of wisdom and experience! Enjoy your time this year at VKL!❤️❤️❤️

  2. Alas, I will only be able to read about VKL, but you bring it alive for me!!!!
Pretty sure my head would probably explode from all the yarny splendor anyways, lol!
Have a wonderful time, and post afterwards–don’t waste one minute during!!!

  3. Definitely bring water or a water bottle because you can also fill up. Keeping hydrated is very important because Saturday it is going to be packed. 🙂
Thanks for the basic reminders even us VKL veterans can forget.
