That time I tried embroidery and liked it

Embroidery is something other people do, if you ask me. What you didn’t ask? LOL well since you are here, let’s talk. I can honestly say I can’t tell you the difference between cross stitch, needlepoint and embroidery, nope I can’t. So when Becca suggested I try, I politely said ok, knowing I had no intention of ever actually completing the task.

Fast forward to the here and now and guess what? I completed my first project!!! I have to thank Becca for introducing me to yet another thing to obsess about, LOL THANKS! She also gifted me all of the things I needed to get started. Check out her site Tres Chic Stitchery.

I didn’t think I would want to do it again, but guys, I do!! I am so very proud of this piece, What I wasn’t prepared for was the reaction on social media! I promise I love my peeps. The folks that bother to follow me are so supportive.

Embroidery

The Process

The challenge was the hair. I wanted the Fro to be a bunch of unruly curls and that is exactly what I created. Now can we talk about these curls? The thing I learned before I started is in embroidery you have quite a few different stitches. I used “my version” of the French Knot. LOL, Yes my version because it was a knot but not quite French. Ha Ha! Folks kept asking what stitch is that?  I instantly thought, well clearly I am not doing it right because they are asking! Let me find out I created a stitch. The GG Curl Knot? The “not knowing what I was doing knot”? LOL My Curls are fabulous!!

The Video

I put a video together so you could see how it went. If YOU are interested I will be offering kits so you can make your own! Woot Woot! Please leave me a comment and tell me if you do any stitching.

What other crafts do you do?

  1. Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! I am a Jack of all trades, Master of none when it comes to crafting (crochet is my main craft of choice). I have tried/done just about everything. And if I dig deep enough, I will find my embroidery hoops. PLEASE offer us the GG Embroidery Kit!! It will give me the excuse that I need to embroider again. This brought back sweet memories of my grandmother, who opened the door to crafting for me. Anxiously awaiting your kit offer! Keep doing what you do!
    Craft on!!

  2. I love this! Whatever your stitch wants to call itself, it’s great, as is your logo! Crochet and embroidery were the first crafts I was taught as a child. They never grabbed me the way knitting did when I took it up in middle age, though. I think about other crafts, especially ones I’ve dabbled in, like crochet, embroidery, and weaving, but I have enough ideas about knitting projects to last me fifty years and more, so I may never take up other crafts!
