The Evolution of GGmadeit

I am sure most of you know my story, what you may or may not know that GGmadeit is only 3years old. GGmadeit was born out of grief when my life simply imploded; therefore,  in 2012 I grabbed my yarn and held on for dear life. I had to because I lost my parents AND my job at the same damn time. I had a decision to make, one that I have to keep making on a daily basis and that is to live. #decideanddo Sure I had some valid reasons to fall apart but nope…I used my yarn to pull me through.

When I gave birth to GGmadeit  I was uncertain at best. I did not think anyone would want to purchase handmade things from me or follow my fb fan page. I certainly didn’t imagine having a blog that would generate traffic or folks buying things displaying my logo. Yarn was/is the string that connected me to a community that helped save me from a life of despair. I don’t care what time I posted pictures of something I was working on, someone in the world would respond and I am so  THANKFUL.

NOW

Fast forward to today, I have a combined following of over 10k on various social media platforms and THAT happens to others, not me.  I never in my wildest dreams expected to show up at an event (Rhinebeck or Vogue Knitting) and have folks recognize me. Wait, what!? You wanna talk about strange…guys my name is Gaye so can I tell you how many times folks were saying “Hey GG!” and I was looking around like who are they talking to? hahahahahaahahahahahaahha

GG has evolved and I am thankful that I decided to work my way through my life. My yarn held my broken heart together so I would be able to enjoy the now. Yesterday I delivered my first knitting workshop and it was amazing. I will never be able to thank Dawn Fitch owner of Pooka Pure and Simple for believing in me. For opening up the doors of her fabulous boutique for me and my yarn. I was so nervous and now I’m so proud. I never expected folks to pay to have me teach them..just Wow! When I do it again, I’ll set a longer time as 2 hours didn’t seem long enough. Everyone said they wanted the second session and that warmed my heart. So the plan is to take GG on the road! Stay tuned.

Thank you to all of you that have supported me over the years. Please know that each and every share, comment  or suggestion matters! I love my fiber friends!

Knit on my fibers friends…knit on

To quote Karen Beilarz from her Knitting Therapy poem……it’s about yarn to thing, it’s about order from chaos, it’s about creation, it’s about control.” It’s why we knit and it’s why we want so lovingly to teach others. It’s why you are here. Looking forward to hearing about your next adventure!

  5. This is just fabulous. Wish I lived in the area. Let me know if you ever come to California. I just received my bag and notebook yesterday.

  6. Congratulations on your first knitting class! It is not a surprise to me that you have so many followers. You share your love of knitting with such joy and humor. Now, people get to enjoy you live and in-person.

  7. Blessings on many more to come your way. Your story warmed my heart, also in agreement with how yarn can effect and ultimately save you. I wish you continued success and many more warming testimonies. XOXO
