I am still knitting my way through | 4 projects down

Knitting came into my life when I needed it most. I was struggling, emotionally, and I kept my knitting close. That was 10 years ago and here we go again. This pandemic has been tough for many reasons. I Thank God that I could pick of my yarn and distract myself.

Today is February 10th and I have completed 4 projects already. Those of you that have been around for a while know that when times get hard…I get to knitting. I have always felt safe with yarn and needle in hand. On January 23rd I found myself in the ER (well Shelbey forced me) because I passed out, twice. Since then I have had every test, multiple Dr visits and wore a heart monitor for a week.

Knitting Projects

The first project I completed this year was from Knit Collage Knit Along. The poncho is called “Shake your Grove Thing” which uses Spun Cloud. Of course I used the Joy Bomb Orange. If you are an orange lover, this color is FABULOUS!! This knitting was rewarding and at the same time nostalgic. Remember when all I used was the fat fibers.

I finished knitting the poncho and instantly cast on the Easie Beanie by Brandi Cheyenne Harper. I love a project that teaches me a new skill. This hat, a hat EVERY one needs to knit, has a hemmed brim. Listen, when I tell you I try NOT to sleep in this hat. LOL

The yarn I used was a gift from Five Borough yarns in the color Meet me at the Ferry. This was the first time I wet blocked a hat and boy oh boy did it make a difference. I have made quite a few hats, but this one is currently my favorite. I promise you need one 😛

Knitting while sick

The next two projects I completed while trying to figure out why I passed out. The first is the Cocoon by KnitSafari and I am so very pleased with the outcome. This shrug is like being wrapped in a fiber hug. There is nothing like the texture that is created when you use seed stitch…it’s beautiful. Oh did I say it had pockets? YESSSSS you know how I get excited about pockets. The kind folks are Rowan sent me the yarn to make this.

The final project is designed by Nancy Ricci. I think you all know how much I love her projects right? She designed the Lazy Sunday State of Mind Sweater. I just realized I knit both of these projects in GLO (GG loves orange). Ok what is the new project GG? LOL I’m sorry I got distracted. Last week I finished the Kyanna Vest and I used ASAP by Madelinetosh in the color GLO. This pattern almost didn’t make it to my needles. Why? It’s made in pieces then seamed *rolls my eyes* I don’t seam well..but I did a good job.

The Kyanna Vest is a quick satisfying project AND it’s the great layer to add to your wardrobe.

Have you completed anything yet this year? My current project will take some time, I will come back with updates

Have a fabulous day…on purpose

GG

  1. I love your finished projects! I’m finishing projects too. I made the pressed flowers shawl which I started in 2021. It took me a while! Then I finished the float shawl ( also started in 2021). I also made the Easy Beanie, which I made for Shelbey. I really enjoyed that one. Since I live in AZ, we don’t wear hats too often, so I was glad to make for her.

I hope they figure out what’s making you sick, and that you’re feeling better soon!

  2. GG, your projects look great as always. I have finished 2 pairs of house socks. But one pair did not work so had to frog them. I just started reknitting them two days ago. I’m trying to finish a sweater but on sleeve island. I’m also working on a scrappy blanked for my Granddaughter. Puls I’m crocheting her a sweater as well. I love purples/teals, but granddaughter loves blues. I really like all the things you make. I hope you are feeling better soon.
    Love ya,
    Tiina

  3. Looks like you’re really into orange. Love your projects – and your glasses, too. Sorry about the recent illness – could it be one of your meds? PS – I think I’ll try the beanie.

    Best wishes

  4. GG—you look beautiful in all your photos. I hope they figure out what’s causing the passing out. I’ve finished Illuminate and Grace Pillow in 2022, oh plus Knit Collage Express Yourself and Magic Mountain Cardi. I really love lots of colors and thinking that GLO should be a purchase soon. Hoping I can pull it off, but the color will always bring a smile to my face.
Take care and thank you for sharing, Cea

  5. Beautiful work, GG! I hope you get some answers or peace of mind soon regarding your health. I’m so impressed that you have 4 projects already in 2022. I have had two on the needles since October. Specifically, two shawlographys. The first one I’m at the final border section but I’m trying to decide if I need to rip back to fix a row of brioche… so it’s in time out. Thanksgiving weekend I cast on a different set of colors and now that it’s February, I’m up to the brioche section. Fingers crossed I don’t mess up—I can’t fix brioche yet. I’ll have two more sections til I’m done with one. I laugh when I think of all the knitters that knit shawlography in about a month, meanwhile, I’ll be done someday. 🐢🐢🐢 🤣

  6. I look forward to your positive messages. We all have ways to work through hard times. As a teen, it was listening to music and reading. As a retired senior, I still read, but knitting is my therapy. Do you keep a log/journal/diary of your knitting? I’ve been doing that for the past four or five years. I enjoyed seeing your finished projects. I took time to look back in my log to see what I’ve completed since the beginning of 2022. So far there are two shawls for assisted living facility residents, a shawl for myself (Stay Lucky Shawl by Jemma Arrowsmith), a GOAT Cowl (2 of them), and Avon Mountain Cowl. I’m working on Joji’s Long Summer Cardigan after seeing your lovely sweater!
